Nestled in the northeastern region of Ukhrul district in Manipur, India, lies the charming Tangkhul Naga village of Khangkhui Phungdhar. Situated approximately 16 kilometers away from Ukhrul District headquarters, the village is surrounded by Choithar to the west, Khangkhui Khullen and Nungshong to the south, Pushing to the east, and Langdang and Shirui to the north.
Home to more than 1000 people living in over 200 households, Khangkhui Phungdhar spans an approximate area of 100 square kilometers. The village boasts a bounty of resources, with crops like cabbage, potato, and others playing a pivotal role in the lives of its inhabitants. An abundance of free-flowing water, sourced from the narrow mountain of 'KHORIM' (a local dialect of Khangkhui, which translates to "place of beautiful mountain" located in the northern region), is also a vital asset for the village.
During the months of September and October, the village is teeming with wild apples, adding to the natural allure of this already picturesque locale.
Located approximately 20 kilometers to the east of Ukhrul town and towering at an altitude of about 2000 meters above sea level is the enchanting plateau of Harva Khangai Kaphung in Khangkhui Phungdhar. Renowned for being a captivating spot to witness both sunrise and sunset, this location offers a surreal experience of witnessing the first rays of the sun.
Additionally, Harva Khangai Kaphung holds great historical significance as it is one of the battle spots of World War II. From the hilltop of Harva Khangai, one can revel in the awe-inspiring scenic beauty of Ningthi River, Myanmar, Angoching Range, Ukhrul town, Khayang Phungtha waterfall, Shirui mountain, and the captivating Imphal Valley.
This picturesque plateau holds immense potential as a tourist destination and could very well be considered a hidden gem not just for the Veikhang villages but for the general public of various communities as well. As such, efforts have been made to explore, adventure and enlighten visitors about the importance of this small hillock of Harva Khangai Kaphung. In the past, Mr. Suisa, an MP member, has expressed his admiration for the thick forest of Harva Khangai Kaphung.
Khorim, also known as Khuirung in the local dialect, is situated on the northern side of Khangkhui Phungdhar, approximately 6 kilometers away from the village. This idyllic location presents a perfect opportunity to settle down and embark on a new chapter in life. It's true that life is short, so we must make the most of our youth and enjoy every moment.
The mountain is home to a variety of wildlife, including cattle and wild animals. The water source of Khangkhui Phungdhar originates from the narrow mountain of Khorim, which is also considered the ura of Khangkhui.
Further to the north lies the stunning Shirui Hills, a beautiful mountain that draws the admiration of many visitors. Its picturesque vistas make it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the region.
